“Backpack” Weekend Meals Program

Lapeer Sunrise Kiwanis has sponsored the “Backpack” Weekend Meals Program for over seven years.  The "Backpack" program provides nutritious food every weekend during the school year for over 200 children at two Lapeer elementary schools.  The program's name comes from the fact that each child's food is provided in a backpack that the child takes home with them each weekend.  Without the “Backpack” program, these children might otherwise go hungry.  As a result of the "Backpack" program, students have shown improved behavior and a greater ability to focus on their studies.

The Sunrise Kiwanis of Lapeer is asking all Lapeer Alumni to help feed the kids of Lapeer Schools.  The Sunrise Kiwanis of Lapeer is having fund raisers to raise money to buy food and feed the kids. Sunrise has a Backpack program and we ask you to please read the article in the LA View at  .  Sunrise Kiwanis has been doing this for 8 years and now needs help for there are more kids to feed with monies.  Please post this on your Facebook so it may go nationwide to reach all alumni of Lapeer Schools.  Please send in a donation to Sunrise Kiwanis, P.
